prajñābalena tapasā caturvedavibhājakaḥ।
kṛṣṇadvaipāyano yaśca tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ॥
Salutations to the great preceptor Kṛṣṇadvaipāyana Vyāsa,
who divided the four Vedas with the power of his wisdom and penance.

manaścenna lagnaṃ guroraṅghripadme।
tataḥ kiṃ tataḥ kiṃ tataḥ kiṃ tataḥ kim॥
If one's mind is not centred upon the lotus feet of the Guru,
what then, what then, what then?

ajñānatimirāndhasya jñānāñjanaśalākayā।
cakṣurunmīlitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ॥
One should know their master or preceptor as Myself (God) and never disrespect him in any way.
One should not think of him as an ordinary man, for a teacher is the embodiment of all Gods.

ajñānatimirāndhasya jñānāñjanaśalākayā।
cakṣurunmīlitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ॥
Salute to the guru who, with the brush of knowledge, opened the eyes of people who were blinded by the darkness of ignorance.

vidvattvaṃ dakṣatā śīlaṃ saṃkrāntiranuśīlanam।
śikṣakasya guṇāḥ sapta sacetastvaṃ prasannatā॥
Scholarship, cleverness, good conduct, teaching skills, repeated study,
consciousness and kindness, these are the seven qualities of a teacher.

mārgaṃ darśayati yaḥ।
The one who shows the path.

prerakaḥ sūcakaśvaiva vācako darśakastathā।
śikṣako bodhakaśvaiva ṣaḍete guravaḥ smṛtāḥ॥
one who teaches, and the one who awakens, these are the six Gurus to remember.

jñānasya phalaṃ viratiḥ viratiphalaṃ cāśravanirodhaḥ॥
Modesty yields service, service to the Guru yields knowledge, knowledge yields detachment, and detachment yields salvation.

guruprasādāta sarvaṃ tu prāpnotyeva na saṃśayaḥ॥
Whatever is not obtained from the Guru, cannot be obtained from elsewhere.
With the grace of the Guru one indeed gets everything.
