‘Nainam Chindanti Shastrani’, this Shlok is from the second chapter i.e. Sankhya Yoga of Bhagavad Gita
. You can also find this Shlok being featured in modern culture. The ‘Bhare Naina’ song from RaOne is one such example.
The essence of the shlok ‘Nainam Chindanti Shastrani’
The Aatman which each one of us have is part of the supreme Purusha (the eternal force). The Shlok depicts that the soul or Aatman is formless, shapeless, limitless and doesn’t possess any physical attributes, but it still exists. The soul is birth-less, eternal, imperishable and timeless and is never destroyed when the body is destroyed.
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः॥
nainaṃ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṃ dahati pāvakaḥ
na cainaṃ kledayantyāpo na śoṣayati mārutaḥ
No weapon can cut the soul into pieces, nor can it be burned by fire,
nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.
इस आत्माको शस्त्र काट नहीं सकते, आग जला नहीं सकती,
जल गला नहीं सकता और वायु सूखा नहीं सकता।
