Celebrating Raksha Bandhan!
Let’s celebrate this Raksha Bandhan while chanting the Raksha Sutra. The mantra that is chanted when Rakhi is tied to the protector’s right hand. The reference of the King Bali is to express equally enormous strength of the bond. The mantra is a prayer, requesting a lifelong protection from the protector. Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on full moon day (Purnima) of the Shravan month.
येन बद्धो बली राजा दानवेन्द्रो महाबलः।
तेन त्वाम् अभिबध्नामि रक्षे मा चल मा चल॥
Transliteration:
yena baddho balī rājā dānavendro mahābalaḥ
tena tvām abhibadhnāmi rakṣe mā cala mā cala
yena baddho balī rājā dānavendro mahābalaḥ
tena tvām abhibadhnāmi rakṣe mā cala mā cala
English translation:
I am tying a Raksha to you, similar to the one tied to Bali the powerful king of demons.
Oh Rakshaa, be firm, do not waver.

Hindi translation:
दानवों के महाबली राजा बलि जिससे बांधे गए थे, उसी तरह से यह रक्षा सूत्र तुम्हें बांधती हुं।
हे रक्षा तुम स्थिर रहना, स्थिर रहना।
